Issue credit note for an unpaid Bill
Issuing a credit note for an unpaid Bill
Bills with an unpaid status fall under one of the following categories:
a. Pending Payment attempt: Bills with a due date in the future or Scheduled Bills. These indicate when the payment attempt will occur, for example “in 2 hours” or “in 3 days”.

b. Failed payment attempt: Bills where the payment attempt has already failed. These can be identified by a passed due date in red.

For both these types of bills, please follow these steps:
- Click the Action button (ellipsis/ three dotted) against the unpaid Bill.
- Select Issue Credit note from the dropdown.
In the Credit Note page, you can completely or partially issue a credit note.
- Complete cancelation of a bill/ issuing a full credit note
To issue a complete credit note, leave the amount fields in the line items as is,
and click Issue Credit Note.
- Partial cancelation of a bill/ issuing partial credit note
To issue a partial credit note, you can adjust the Credit amount (amount to be
cancelled) against each line/charge items of the bill.
- Adjustment total is the sum of the Credit amount against each line item of the bill.
- Current bill amount due: is the original bill amount.
- Bill amount due after credit: is the amount left after deducting the credit amount from the original bill amount.
- Amount to credit: is the amount that will be credited/ cancelled for the unpaid bill.
Here is an example of a partial credit note of $1 against an unpaid bill of $11.00:

After entering these details, click "Issue Credit Note".
The entry would look like this:

Using the same example from above, if a bill originally totalled $11 and $1 is cancelled by issuing a credit note, the adjustment will appear as - $1, and the remaining $10 will be the amount due from the customer.
Issuing a credit note for a paid bill will be discussed separately in a separate article.
