Understanding the EX / IN Toggle (Tax Inclusive vs Exclusive Pricing)

When creating a charge item in JRNY Ops, a tax rate is defined at the time of setup. This tax rate is automatically applied when the charge item is selected when creating a bill.

The system allows Ops users to control whether the Unit Price is entered as:

Exclusive of tax (EX)
Inclusive of tax (IN)

This is managed using the EX/IN toggle available next to the Unit Price field.

Why does this feature matter?

The EX / IN toggle provides flexibility when:

Pricing is communicated to customers, inclusive of tax
Your business provides tax-exclusive rates
Different regions require different billing formats

This allows Ops users to align invoices with their business needs while ensuring accurate tax calculations based on local tax rules

How this feature works:

When a charge item is selected from the Line Item dropdown:

The Quantity and Tax Rate fields are automatically prefilled based on how the charge item was set up
The Unit Price field displays an EX button by default (if set as exclusive).

Clicking the EX button toggles it to IN, and vice versa.

What EX and IN Mean

EX (Exclusive of Tax)

The Unit Price entered does not include tax.
The system calculates tax separately.
The Gross Amount displays the Unit Price plus the tax amount.
The tax component is shown separately in the Tax Amount column.

IN (Inclusive of Tax)

The Unit Price entered already includes tax.
The system extracts the tax portion from the entered price.
The Gross Amount remains equal to the Unit Price.
The calculated tax portion is displayed in the Tax Amount column.
